Continental Business Network (CBN)

An African-led movement to fast-track high-level private sector investment in Africa’s regional infrastructure development is required to spur intra-African trade and regional integration.

The Continental Business Network (CBN) spearheaded by NEPAD is an exclusive Infrastructure Investment Advisory platform for African Heads of State, providing thought leadership and engagement on a range of strategic issues like policy, investment risk rating(s), project structuring and specifically the existing constraints to the implementation of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA). The Network comprises leading African and global business and finance bodies as well as regional and international organisations.

An annual investment of USD 93 billion is required for Africa to meet its infrastructure needs – USD 40.92 billion (44 per cent) for energy, USD 21.39 billion (23 per cent) for water and sanitation, USD18.6 billion (20 per cent) for transport, USD 9.3 billion (10 per cent) for ICTs and USD 2.79 billion (3 per cent) for irrigation.


Infrastructure is Africa’s top priority. With low levels of intra-regional economic exchange and the smallest share of global trade, Africa is the least integrated continent in the world....
